(CNN) — Will Smith has been making more movies than music for a while now, but that doesn’t mean he’s done laying tracks.

As the “After Earth” star showed Letterman’s “Late Show” audience on Monday night, he still knows how to rock a mic – as well as spit all of the lyrics to his hit with DJ Jazzy Jeff, “Summertime.”

According to an interview with HipHollywood.com, Smith might have newer sounds on deck soon with a little encouragement from Kanye West. The two were spotted in a studio together in Brazil back in February.

“I’ve been messing around with Kanye, we went in the studio a couple times,” Smith said. “I might get the bug. I’m not going to do it unless I’m truly inspired, but ‘Ye’s been pushing me a little bit.”

Smith’s last studio album, “Lost and Found,” arrived in 2005.

From Nischelle Turner

(CNN) — When we think of the perfect summer blockbuster, we think of action — and July’s “The Wolverine” will have more than enough, star Hugh Jackman says.

The 44-year-old is back for another round as the ferocious mutant Logan/Wolverine, but James Mangold’s take is somewhat darker than its predecessors.

As the trailers have shown, the typically sly Logan appears to be in a pretty serious funk as he’s haunted by thoughts of Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). When a man whose life he once saved summons him to Japan, the ageless mutant is presented with an offer of mortality as a so-called expression of gratitude.

“He’s sort of interested in it, because if your life is not great and there is a lot of regret and pain, would it be great to live on and on?” Jackman said of his character’s dilemma. And yet, as Wolverine hints in the trailer, the time hasn’t come where he has nothing left to live for.

Fans are anticipating seeing the iconic “X-Men” character put up an intense fight against his foes — part of which happens atop a bullet train, as previews have shown.

“The only bad thing about filming a scene on the bullet train is that the wind machines are so powerful that when you watch it back on the monitor, you’re like, ‘man, I got to get a facelift because there’s just skin flying everywhere,’ ” Jackman joked. “When I was lying on that train, I would just get pushed back — and a couple of times, I just fell off of the train.”

But, as a guy who loves the “popcorn element” of summer movies, he knows those sorts of action sequences are what audiences are hoping for.

“Yes, (‘The Wolverine’) is a character piece, and I would say it may be a little darker in tone than the others, and it certainly feels a little different, (but) it’s just as much fun,” Jackman said. “The action is probably in this is more inventive than we’ve ever had before.”

CNN’s Nischelle Turner spoke with Jackman about how he bulked up once again, his character’s vulnerable side and why Wolverine makes a pretty solid wingman for a teen.

CNN: Looking at you, the only thing I can say is, “Wolverine is back!”

Hugh Jackman: He’s back, and I couldn’t be happier. I never in a million years would’ve thought (that) I’d still be playing this character (12 years later). It kind of really is shocking to me, but at the same time, it’s such an instant gratitude, because I love this character.

CNN: So you know him now, really know him?

Jackman: I hope so. I feel like I do. I certainly feel proprietorial over him, and, you know, I have now read a lot of (the) comic books. Being someone who had never read the comic books, when I first heard about the audition, I was like, ‘They want me to play Brian Maddox?’ who is the lead of this Aussie rock band called the Uncanny X-Men. … So I knew nothing. It’s been a great ride.

CNN: This picks up after “X-Men 3,” so we do know that Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) has met her demise — but I’ve seen the trailers. She’s there!

Jackman: I don’t want to give away too much. She is there in the way that loved ones are always there … in a very real way, she’s there.

CNN: Is it safe to say that Wolverine, especially in this movie, is a little bit of a sensitive superhero?

Jackman: He’s certainly more vulnerable.

CNN: He’s a broken man, a bit.

Jackman: Oh, yeah. I mean, Wolverine is the toughest superhero. I may be biased, but I think he’s the toughest. He doesn’t necessarily have the strongest powers on paper, but … he’s the one guy who you don’t want to be on his bad side. In this movie, however, you kind of see the toll of that; we start with him questioning everything. His life has been dominated by pain, by regret, mistakes …

CNN: He loses the love of his life.

Jackman: (He) loses the love of his life, (and) we’ve seen that impact. He’s one of those people where whenever he gets close to someone, bad things tend to happen. So in a way, not only for himself but for the world, he decides to just completely go off the reservation and sort of deny who he is and be like a recluse.

CNN: But there is something that’s bringing him back

Jackman: There is something bringing him back. … He just can’t help himself, you know? I think the thing I love about him is, you know, he’s reluctant, he doesn’t want to get involved, he’s not an idealist, but at the end of the day when there is an injustice, he can’t help but rise to the occasion.

CNN: He’s such a great character. (Playing him) had to raise the cool factor by 20 million with your kids.

Jackman: It does, yeah. Except now my son’s turning 13, and he’s like, “you’re really nothing like Wolverine, are you?”

CNN: Does he use that to attract girls?

Jackman: This is very weird, but on some level, I’m kind of a wingman for my son, who’s turning 13. This sounds very politically incorrect, but it’s weird because most of the time, he doesn’t want to talk about it with me. He doesn’t talk about it much; he just wants me to be Dad. But I spotted him at the beach a couple years back, and he was talking to some girl who must have been 14 or 15. I was like, “Hmm … like father, like son.” And all of a sudden, he’s pointing at me, and he walks over towards me. And he’s sort of walking ahead of the girl, he’s about 20 yards in front of the girl, and he’s going, “Dad … Wolverine. Just give an autograph, will you?” And I was like, “OK.”

CNN: You sealed the deal for your son!

Jackman: For my then-11-year-old son! I know! If you see me in bars in about 10 years time, stop me!

CNN: Does the process of bulking up ever get tedious? I mean, there’s muscles everywhere.

Jackman: I’ll be honest with you, I kind of love it; I love the challenge of it. My personality is, ‘I have to be in better shape than the last time.” … I feel really blessed to have the role, and I want to do it better every time, and so for me, the physicality of Wolverine is everything. I’ve realized it’s preparation, it’s time. Like in some of the old movies, you could see I didn’t have time to prep. And I’m 44 now, so I need the time.

CNN: How much time did you spend getting ready?

Jackman: Three hours a day. I had a mentor, Dwayne Johnson, the Rock. We’re mates, and I said, ‘Mate, I need to know what you do.” And he said, “Tell me you’ve got six months? … You need six months to do this.” He told me the diet — 6,000 calories — (and that) you have to train like no one else.

CNN: What does 6,000 calories a day consist of?

Jackman: It’s six meals, with each meal having some kind of protein — chicken, steak, fish, eggs — a lot of it. Brown rice. If you’re lucky enough, as you’re bulking, you get brown rice or sweet potato. And then in the last month, I cut all the carbs out, and then it’s a lot of steamed veggies. It’s pretty plain, there’s no salt, very little seasoning. And that’s the big that gets hard.

This is what I learned: When I started, I used to think, “You want to be bigger? You want to be in better shape? Train harder, train harder, train harder!” It’s not not (that), it’s the food. Seventy percent of the way you look is your diet, 30% is your training. So if there’s anything you’ve got to concentrate on, it’s the food.

CNN: When you’re done, what’s the first thing you go for?

Jackman: Lasagna, ice cream, desserts, pizza … All that stuff.

CNN: That’s probably one of the happiest days of your life.

Jackman: So good. I love it so much. I eat pretty much everything.

“The Wolverine” opens in the U.S. on July 26.

By Brandon Griggs

(CNN) — There’s fresh evidence that American teenagers may be growing weary of Facebook.

They don’t like the fact that their parents, grandparents and other adults are also there, diluting Facebook’s “cool” factor. They complain about their friends’ oversharing, and about too much “drama” on the site. And they’re increasingly flocking to other social platforms, such as Twitter.

These are some of the findings of a new Pew Research Center survey of U.S. teens’ social media use. Released Tuesday, the survey finds that teens are sharing more personal information on social media, but are also taking a variety of steps to manage their privacy online.

But it was the Facebook stuff that generated the most headlines. According to Pew, focus-group discussions with teens revealed “waning enthusiasm” for Facebook for the reasons cited, including feeling “drained by the ‘drama’ that they described as happening frequently” on the site.

“The stress of needing to manage their reputation on Facebook also contributes to the lack of enthusiasm,” the survey said.

The Pew survey found that 24% of online teens now use Twitter, up from 16% in 2011. Other social platforms such as Tumblr, Instagram (which is owned by Facebook), YouTube and Snapchat also have seen big growth among young users in the past year.

“Those teens who used sites like Twitter and Instagram reported feeling like they could better express themselves on these platforms, where they felt freed from the social expectations and constraints of Facebook,” the Pew survey said. “Nevertheless, the site is still where a large amount of socializing takes place, and teens feel they need to stay on Facebook in order to not miss out.”

Facebook has 1.1 billion users worldwide and remains the most popular social network among U.S. teens.

A Facebook spokesperson declined to comment specifically Wednesday on the Pew report but pointed to statements by CFO David Ebersman in a recent conference call about quarterly earnings, in which he emphasized Facebook’s popularity among users under 25.

“We continue to have really high penetration rates among that age group, both in the U.S. and globally, and … younger users remain among the most active and engaged users,” Ebersman said. “Younger users are extremely active users of Instagram as well.”

Facebook executives maintain that teen use of their social network has remained steady. They argue that Facebook is not losing users to other platforms — instead, they say, more users are visiting other social media sites in addition to Facebook.

“The urban legend (that Facebook is losing younger users) flows more often than not from surveys people have done of younger users that indicate that they’re using other social services … much of the concern stems from the assumption that this is a zero-sum game, and that’s not how we see it,” Ebersman said. “We think the overall amount of time spent on services that enable you to connect and share is growing and will continue to grow.”

Jeff Hancock, a professor of communication at Cornell University and a frequent social media analyst, mostly agrees.

“Facebook’s attraction to youth is based in part on being connected, but also on being an ‘ingroup’ and ‘cool’ thing. To the degree that the cool of Facebook wears off, we should see some migration of teens to other platforms,” he said.

“People are unlikely to fully leave Facebook but simply to diversify their tools for accomplishing social interaction. Instead of Facebook being the Walmart of social media, it will become just one platform in a big ecology, including photo sharing with Instragram, broadcasting with Twitter, etc.”

Pew’s findings are based on a nationally representative phone survey, run by its Internet & American Life Project, of 802 teens ages 12-17. It was conducted between July 26 and September 30, 2012. Pew also conducted two online focus groups of teenagers ages 12-17 in June 2012.

Pew found that the typical (median) teen Facebook user has 300 friends, while the typical teen Twitter user has 79 followers.

By Catriona Davies

(CNN) — The Great Gatsby, the film based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, shows the glamorous and decadent lifestyles of fashionable, high society Americans of the Roaring Twenties.

Set in the prosperous Long Island in the summer of 1922, the novel portrays the so-called “flapper” culture, fun-loving young women who wore their hair and their skirts short, listened to jazz music, drank and smoked in public, and were far more sexually liberated than previous generations.

But who were the real women of the Great Gatsby era? CNN asked actresses Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher and Elizabeth Debicki, the female stars of Baz Luhrmann’s film, to tell us who gave them inspiration for their characters.

Ginevra King

A wealthy debutante and Fitzgerald’s first love, Ginevra King is widely believed to be the inspiration for Daisy Buchanan, James Gatsby’s love interest.

Fitzgerald met King in 1915 in his hometown of St Paul, Minnesota, when he was a 19-year-old Princeton student home for Christmas vacation and she was a 16-year-old boarding school pupil.

Though they dated for two years before both going on to marry other people, Fitzgerald never forgot his first love, who is often described as his muse.

In 2003, Princeton University acquired the letters to Fitzgerald from King’s family, allowing biographers to learn details of their relationship for the first time.

Carey Mulligan, who played Daisy Buchanan in “The Great Gatsby” film, went to Princeton to study the letters while researching her character.

“The way that she writes is absolutely incredible,” Mulligan told CNN. “Her way with language is so reminiscent of the way that Daisy speaks. She came from a very wealthy family and shared so many biographical [details].”

Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald

Letters between Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald also provided rich material for Mulligan’s research.

“One of my favorite parts of the whole experience was the time just before we started shooting when I got to look at the people who inspired Fitzgerald,” said Mulligan. “It was amazing to go to Princeton and to get to read letters between Zelda and Scott, and between Ginerva King and Scott, and see where he’d directly drawn parts of Daisy to put her together.”

Zelda, a Southern belle, met Fitzgerald at a country club dance, but was unimpressed with his wealth and status and refused to marry him until his first novel, “The Side of Paradise”, was published in 1920.

The newly-wed Fitzgeralds became a celebrity couple, known for their partying lifestyle.

However, the party was short-lived and in 1930 — with their marriage crumbling and Fitzgerald suffering from alcoholism — Zelda was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and admitted to hospital, where she wrote a semi-biographical novel, “Save Me the Waltz”.

Clara Bow

Silent film actress Clara Bow was known as the “it” girl of the Roaring Twenties, after her most famous movie “It” of 1927. Despite a poor and unhappy childhood, Bow starred in 38 silent movies.

Bow provided inspiration for Gatsby actress Isla Fisher, for her character Myrtle, who has an extramarital affair with Daisy Buchanan’s husband, Tom.

“I was inspired by Clara Bow for Myrtle because I think that’s who she would have wanted to be,” Fisher told CNN. “Myrtle would (have) loved to have been an actress and she would never have [had] the opportunity because of her status.

“I feel like Myrtle is living in her own theatrical world where she’s the star when she is with Tom Buchanan, even though her life is so sad without him.”

Louise Brooks

Louise Brooks was another great actress of the silent movie era, best known for her films “Pandora’s Box” and “Diary of a Lost Girl”, both filmed in Germany in 1929.

Among the first to sport a bobbed haircut, it was Brooks who inspired the Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki, playing “The Great Gatsby” character Jordan Baker in the film.

“She is just fierce, wonderful, intelligent, and I read a lot about her,” said Debicki. “She really typified that woman who appeared in the 1920s, completely independent and, like Gatsby, she built herself up, created the image she wanted.

“I had photos of her in my kitchen, everywhere. When I woke up in the morning I would look at Louise Brooks.”

Jim shows us what we can do at home to attain a ‘beach-body’ for summer. He recommends drinking at least 64 ounces of water or more per day, plus, he says – don’t diet!

Jim says he wants people to stop focusing on the number on the scale, and instead, focus on these things: how well your clothes fit, fitting into your ‘skinny’ jeans, and compare ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos of your progress.

He also says you must eat carbs. “Everyone is afraid to eat carbs”, he says, must eat them to fuel workouts and endurance.

Have a cheat meal once a week – not a cheat day. He recommends keeping a food journal. An exercise journal is also not a bad idea.

(CNN) — Actor Edward Furlong tried to hide, but ended up caught and behind bars in California for allegedly violating a protective order filed against him by an ex-girlfriend, authorities said.

West Hollywood, California, deputies responded at 5:44 p.m. Thursday to a call about a possible violation of a protection order, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Friday in a news release.

They found the suspect — the 35-year-old actor best known for his role in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” — hiding on a nearby property. He was arrested and brought to a sheriff’s substation in West Hollywood, authorities said.

After his breakthrough role in 1991 along side Arnold Schwarzenegger, Furlong went on to star in a number of movies, including “American History X,” and TV projects, such as “CSI-NY.”
